Chennai Express moves on leaving behind bogies in Kollam
Karunagappally: A train continued to run even after some of its bogies got detached from the engine here on Wednesday. As the train was at low speed, the passengers had a narrow escape from a disaster.
Bogies of Thiruvananthapuram-Chennai Express which was heading to Chennai, were detached from the engine. The train engine continued to run with four bogies even after other bogies disconnected.
It is reported that the train covered around 500 metres leaving disconnected bogies on the track. As realizing the decoupling, engine was brought near the disconnected bogies and later attached back.
The incident took place on the track near Mararithottam temple on Wednesday around 4.30 pm.
After connecting the bogies, the train resumed the journey around 5.30 pm.
The train was running at low speed due to the bridge and a curve near the track. Hence, a huge accident was averted.
Train traffic on this route was stopped for an hour till the train resumed service.
In September 2016, a goods train had derailed in the same place with 9 bogies being detached.
