Centuries-old ancestral house in T’puram destroyed in fire
Aryankode: A 200-year-old ancestral house, with ‘padippura’ and ‘nalukettu’ in Chemboor here was destroyed in fire the other day. However, the family escaped the mishap averting danger. The bedridden elderly woman was brought outside with the help of neighbours after family members noticed fire.
The furniture and other household items were charred in the fire that occurred at 2 am on Wednesday. According to the family, they incurred a loss worth Rs 50 lakh.
The houses of Uthunkalampadu native KB Narayan (75) and his mother-in-law Sarasammapillai (98) were destroyed. Narayanan’s padippuraveedu, made of wood, was completely charred while the roof and other parts of Sarasammapillai’s house was burnt.
Narayanan, wife Indirabai and her mother Sarasammapillai were inside the house at the time of fire.
Aryankode police, fire unit from Neyyar dam and locals tried to put off the fire. The family has alleged mystery into the incident.
Aryankode CI Pradeep said that the reason for fire has not been ascertained. A case has been registered and probe is underway, he added.
