Car knocks down pedestrian, carries him for 400 m on bonnet in Kochi; driver nabbed
Kochi: In broad day light, a car hit a pedestrian and carried him on bonnet for nearly 400 metres in Kochi city. In connection with the case, police nabbed the car driver Nahas (25), a native of Kacherippady.
K S Nishanth (33), native of Elamakkara who was hit by the car has been admitted to a private hospital after he sustained injuries in the incident.
The incident happened on Monday around 3.30 pm at Marottichuvadu on the Edappally – Palarivattom bypass road. Injured Nishanth, an auto driver by profession, had come at Marottichuvadu in one of his friend’s autorickshaw. The car hit him while Nishanth was walking in the direction of Palarivattom after alighting from autorickshaw. In the impact of the collision, Nishanth fell on the bonnet of the car and Nahas continued driving the car carrying him on bonnet. After going about nearly 400 metres, Nahas braked the car abruptly and Nishanth fell on the road.
Nahas then drove the car over Nishanth’s leg in the direction of Palarivattom. Locals who gathered at the spot admitted Nishanth to the hospital.
He sustained injuries on his both legs. Doctors inserted metal rod into the right leg through a surgery. He was advised for three months’ complete rest.
On Monday itself, Elamakkara police began investigation on the incident with the help of CCTV footages and eye witnesses. After identifying the culprit, police nabbed Nahas from his house on Friday.
