Kottayam: Elephant Puduppalli Keshavan has come out of detention after months long musth season, but showed no sign of the long struggling period when he was brought for body measurements in Kottayam Parambuzha forest department.
The measuring of elephants took place as per the high court direction when Keshavan was in musth period. So, his measuring was not completed. On Friday morning, the tusker was brought to the forest department depot in Parambuzha for the purpose. The measuring process continued for more than 30 minutes.
The elephant’s height, nails, sides, tusk and trunk were estimated. The tusker seemed to be obedient when its mahouts instructed to move for measuring. Puduppalli Keshavan is 318 cm tall. Its left tusk is 103 cm long and right tusk is 102.5 cm. The forest officers informed that his tusks are due for cutting.
There are 65 captivated elephants under Kottayam Parambuzha forest division and mesauring of 59 of them had completed on November 29 last year. The mesauring of others was delayed as they were in musth. There are two more elephants yet to complete their mesauring.
