Autos shift gear to electric mode
Balussery: Electric vehicles are gaining a stronger ground in many small cities as bid to reduce air pollution gains momentum. Baburaj, hailing from Balussery, also known to his friends as Jupiter Babu, began his first electric auto service in the Kozhikode district on Friday. Baburaj’s auto, dubbed ‘Jupiter’, received a rousing reception from other auto drivers in Balussery.
The auto drivers say that electric autos are their pride and they would embrace any change which would yield a positive outcome. As petrol and diesel prices continue to soar, discussions revolve around launch of electric autos.
Baburaj had purchased his Mahindra auto for 2 lakhs. He expects that for each kilometre he would have to spend 50 paise only. Baburaj said that he received great response from the public on the inaugural day of his auto service.
As the auto is not strapped with inbuilt battery, it could be charged from the plug point of the house like mobile phones. Baburaj has said that it does not emit any carbon pollutants and he does not experience any shaking or any loud noise either.
