Around 500 artistes stage mega ‘Thirayattam’ aiming Limca world record
Thrissur: About 500 artistes took part in the mega ‘Thirayattam’ performance held at Thekkinkadu Maidan on Sunday. The grand performance was organised by ‘Thudi’ Art and Cultural Society with the cooperation of Kerala Tourism Department and Kerala Folklore Academy.
Representatives of Limca Book of World Records also watched the performance to consider it for a world record. The artistes performed for 30 minutes wearing costumes and accessories weighing about 10 kilograms. The huge crown like accessory is the major attraction of the art.
‘Thira’ is a religious art form performed by people of Mannan and Perumannan communities. ‘Thudi cultural society intends to preserve the art form for future generations by organising similar events. Minister K. T. Jaleel inaugurated the cultural event and also honoured senior Thira artistes.
