All eyes on this Idukki girl - the future boxing champion
Rajakkad: The lone crusader from Idukki, Anju Sabu, bagged gold in state senior boxing championship. She has also bagged medals in other events.
A first year M.Com student at Thiruvananthapuram Thumba St. Xavier’s College, Anju is the daughter of Senapati native Sabu and Mini.
Anju began her sports life with athletics during her school days and gradually switched to boxing and continued to win medals. She later joined Kerala Sports Council’s hostel at Karyavattom after completing Plus Two.
Anju continued boxing practice under coach Dronacharya Chandralal after getting admission in St. Xavier’s College for graduation. Later, she got admission in merit seat for post-graduation at the same college.
Anju bagged gold medal in 48 kg women's boxing category in the university level championship and also secured titles like best boxer, woman champion and overall champion.
She has also qualified for the National Boxing Championship to be held in Rajasthan on December 30. Anju who also loves athletics came second in high jump competition in university level events.
Presently, Anju is practising under Kerala Sports Council coach Manoj. She is one among the twelve who got selected in state government’s “Operation Olympiad” project and is a rising talent in sports from Kerala.
