Alappuzha man flew in as lone passenger and is excited at the unique experience
Alappuzha: A flight had flown from Frankfurt in Germany to Singapore on June 14 for a single passenger. It was Alappuzha native Prathap Pillai. Also he was the only guest at the hotel in Hamburg of Germany and the hotel functioned for him alone. Prathap is thrilled for having such unique experience.
Prathap Pillai (46) is the vessel manager of a Norwegian shipping company and he stays in Singapore. He regularly travelled by flights to foreign countries for official purposes. On March 12, he reached Hamburg in Germany for a similar matter. But COVID lockdown was imposed by then. Though the company officials asked him to fly to Singapore, the international flight service in Germany had stopped.
Following this, Prathap Pillai had to stay as the only guest in a 250-room hotel arranged by his company for three months. Flight service started from India by June. First Prathap planned to return to India, but later he decided to return to Singapore. He got a ticket in the flight from Frankfurt on June 14. He was informed that there would be 17 passengers.
When Prathap reached the airport, the officials said that other passengers cancelled their tickets. The COVID restrictions were made stricter in Germany following COVID outbreak. Medical certificate was mandatory 24 hours before the journey. Also the date of ourney was decided by the government. The other passengers might have cancelled their tickets due to these conditions, Prathap said.
There were 10 flight staff and Prathap was the only passenger. So, social distancing was not an issue at all. He reached Singapore and completed 14 days of quarantine.
Prathap Pillai resides in Thirumala in Alappuzha. His wife Dr Nanda Prathap works in the anesthesia department of Alappuzha TD Medical College. The couple's son Harishankar is a Plus One student of Good Shepherd School in Changanassery.
