After ostrich death, T’puram zoo arranges fan, coolers for animals
Thiruvananthapuram: Animals and birds at the Thiruvananthapuram zoo will now get a relief from the scorching heat. The authorities have installed fans and coolers for the zoo inmates following the death of an ostrich due to sun stroke on Wednesday.
The birds will also get a shower twice a day. A fan has been installed near the ostrich enclosure. Also, a shed was built to keep them away from direct sunlight.
A post-mortem of the ostrich had revealed that it died due to extreme heat conditions. The doctors said its body showed a temperature of over 108 Degree Celsius during the time of examination.
A fan has been installed at the enclosure of Nilgai. Apart from that, sprinklers have been used to spray water inside its cage.
Besides the birds, tigers, leopard and lions will get a shower. Also, a tub with water has been arranged near their cages for them to take a dip. Foxes, rheas and deer will also be sprayed with water occasionally.
Anacondas can only live in air conditioned atmosphere and they have been give an air conditioned cage with small water tanks.
The Zoo Superintendent said more trees will be planted inside the zoo after consulting with the Forest Department.
