Kottayam: Though Jewel does not understand the language or know the people here, she has realised that her beloved mummy is no more. She burst into tears while giving one last kiss on her cheek, and then leaned to her Papa’s shoulder. The house was a heaven for the little girl for the last 15 days, but it turned into a tearful picture in a day.
Jewel, the 6-year-old girl, is the adopted daughter of Sally who was killed in a road accident in Cheruvandur on Sunday. She was taken to Kerala only 15 days ago. Sally and her husband Joy adopted the girl from Delhi. They decided to adopt a child 11 years after marriage.
Sally always wanted to name everything she loved as ‘jewel’. She also named her shop and house as ‘Jewel’. She wanted to give the same name to her child also. Thus Delhi native Lakshmi became Jewel for Sally and Joy. They reached Kerala with her only 15 days back.

Earlier, Sally was working as a nurse in Bengaluru. She opened a shop named ‘Jewel Stores’ close to her house during the lockdown time. Soon after adoption, Jewel became close to her new mummy and papa. Sally took the child to all relatives’ houses to introduce her to them.
On Sunday evening, Sally was taking Jewel to their relative Sunil’s house. However, it turned out to be her final journey. An overspeeding car hit her and the girl. Though they were taken to hospital, Sally succumbed to injuries later. Last rites were held at Cheruvandur cemetery on Monday evening.
