Adithi Achuth becomes country's first transgender entrepreneur in fisheries sector
Kochi: Adithi Achuth had to knock many doors for a livelihood for long time. But now she is experiencing a dream come true moment as she has become the first transgender entrepreneur in fisheries sector in India.
Adithi has opened a high-tech fish selling centre at Vennala market with the help of the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI). Being transgender, Adithi was struggling to get a job and the other issues in workplaces, led her to thinking about a business venture.
The fish selling centre was inaugurated by movie stars Harisree Ashokan and Molly Kannamaly. The venture is part of the scheduled caste sub plan project. CMFRI principal scientist and scheduled caste sub plan chairman Dr K Madhu handed over the key to Adithi.
Along with live fish, sea fish also is available in Adithi’s shop. Fish will be delivered at households in sealed packets as per order in both retail and wholesale quantity. Freezer facility to keep fish alive, equipment to cut and clean fish, cooler and other facilities are arranged in the sales centre at the cost of about Rs 5 lakh.
