A temporary police station at wedding hall since 4 yrs at Meenakshipuram
Chittur: Even after construction, the new police station at Meenakshipuram still remains closed for a long time. The police officials are struggling at the temporary police station set up at a wedding hall run by Milk Co-operative society here.
The new police station building was constructed spending Rs 1.5 crore allotted from former MLA K Achuthan’s local development fund. In 2015, then Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala inaugurated the new police station building.
But the police station was not shifted to the new building even after four years. The temporary police station is working at the building that is roofed with a sheet and there is no proper ventilation. As the temperature level is rising day by day, the police officials are having a tough time to work here.
“We have been struggling here since 4 years. We can’t tolerate the heat now. It is difficult to spend time inside the police station in these hot days,” complained the staff here.
Over 35 people are employed at this police station. The police station was shifted to the wedding hall in Meenakshipuram for a temporary period on rent.
“We have not received the rent for last 20 months,” said Milk Co-operative society president Sachidananda Gopalakrishnan.
