A Sudani, his Malayali connections and his life in distress
Dubai: Hani Nader Mergani Ali was in the news when he came to Dubai from Sudan and met his Malayali mother and siblings after 16 years. But Hani who fled from his father to reach Dubai is still in distress.
Hani has been struggling to make ends meet and even to buy food for the past 3 months as he lost his job. He is supported only by his sister who works for Dh 1200 wages in UAE. They have to take care of their ill mother and other siblings who live in a rented house in Kerala. But they cannot save money after their daily expenses.
Years ago, a Sudani youth who arrived in Kerala to pursue studies in University of Calicut married Narikkuni native girl Noorjahan. Hani was born to the couple. One day Hani’s father took him to Sudan secretly from his nursery school. Hani has never seen his mother after the incident. Also, he was brutally harassed by his father and foster mother in Sudan.
Later, a Mannarkkad native Farookh whom Hani befriended from Sudan helped him. He handed over the details of his mother and siblings and their marriage certificate to Farookh. Raheem Pozhil who works in Dubai used these details to find Hani’s family through social media and finally found Noorjahan’s relative Shihab.
After this, Hani’s sister, relatives and natives initiated to bring him to Dubai on visiting visa. Later, they also brought Noorjahan to Dubai and the mother and son met after years. Hani had got a job in Sharjah but lost it before 3 months.
Hani claimed that he can speak and type Arab language. He is waiting for a job. The documents to go to India and stay with his mother are under preparation. Since he does not have a few documents, the procedures are likely to be delayed, said the social activists who intervened in the issue.
