A driving school on top of building at Parassala!
Parassala: In a bizarre incident here at Parassala in Thiruvananthapurum district, a driving school is operating on the top of a building risking the lives of students.
Though a complaint was lodged with the Motor Vehicle Department against the owner for violating safety norms, the department did not take any action.
Some driving schools operating under the Joint RTO Office of Parassala conduct training classes on roof tops. There is a training centre near the main road in Neduvanvila near Parassala where driving classes are held in a similar way.
Students regularly receive driving lessons on car and scooters on the roof tops. Students usually receive driving lessons on the tracks of 'H 'and '8' arranged on the terrace. There are no adequate safety racks or walls set up near the driving tracks except a makeshift hand rail.
Though the Motor Vehicle Act stipulates that driving lessons must be provided in accordance to adequate safety standards, no strict action has been taken by the department against illegal driving schools. Another new building has been erected near the building and the two buildings are connected with iron sheets to facilitate easy movement of vehicles for training.
Ironically, the driving lessons are smoothly progressing on the 'driving track' set up on iron sheets which connects both ends of the building. If the students, who are not properly trained, lose control of their vehicles, it could lead to fatal accidents. A senior official of the Department of Motor Vehicles said such driving lessons organised on top of buildings are dangerous and do not comply with safety standards.
