60 dancers perform ‘Mathruvandanam’ at Kalamandalam
Cheruthuruthy: ‘Mathruvandanam’ (paying respectful greeting to mother) performed by 60 dancers at the Koothambalam in Kerala Kalamandalam turned out to be a different experience for the onlookers. As part of the Kerala Piravi Day, the dance unit of Kerala Kalamandalam performed the poem ‘Mathruvandanam’ written by Vallathol.
The poem that begins with the line ‘Vandippin mathavine’ (Let’s pay respect to mother) was composed in Sindhubhairavi raga and was vocalized by Vani Venugopal and Gayathri.
In the meeting that followed after the performance, Dr. Raghavan Payyandu delivered the keynote address. Dr. N. R. Gramaprakash chaired the function and Dr. C. M. Neelakandan, Dr. V. K. Vijayan and Vallathol Vasanthi Menon addressed the audience.
