50-year-old tusker Thampuran Narayanan dies
Thrissur: A 50-year-old tusker named Thampuran Narayanan, belonging to the Cochin Devaswom Board, died here on Tuesday after it fell unconscious.
The elephant was originally offered to the Poornathrayeesan temple at Thripunithura by a member of the erstwhile royal family of Cochin, hence the name ‘Thampuran’. The tusker was just six year old then.
As the tusker had some health issues, his appearance at temple festival recently had become less frequent than in the past.
