Erumeli: Four Ayyappa devotees, who were on Sabarimala pilgrimage, stopped their journey midway and returned home in protest of the entry of women in the shrine.
The devotees were identified as Thiruvananthapuram natives Babu (49) Sunil, (43) Anilkumar (48) and Subhash (42).
They offered their irumudikkettu (sacred bundle) at the bottom of the flag post at Erumeli Sree Dharmasasta temple.
Babu has been taking Sabarimala pilgrimage on foot for the last 19 years while Sunil has been taking the pilgrimage for the last five years. Subhash was taking the pilgrimage on foot for the fifth year and Anilkumar for the second time.
They have been taking the Erumeli-Pullumed route. The group prepared their irumudikkettu (sacred bundle) from the Aazhamkulam Sree Dharmasasta temple on Saturday.
They came to know of the women entering Sabarimala upon reaching Erumeli on Wednesday. Shocked to hear the news, the group decided to end their pilgrimage and return home.
