20 years since Abdul Majeed returned home safe and sound carrying his 'death certificate'
Thrissur: Abdul Majeed, a Thrissur Kadappuram native, came back to life after a mortuary guard saw signs of life in his body that was taken to a morgue in Saudi Arabia. It has been 20 years since Abdul Majeed made a miraculous return from mortuary and came home carrying his death certificate to his house in Thrissur.
It was on November 5, 2001, that Majeed was admitted to a hospital in Riyadh with serious health issues. He was pronounced dead after five days of treatment and was transferred to a morgue. The doctor also certified his death and issued a certificate.
Meantime, the watchman of the morgue identified that Abdul was still alive and he was shifted back to the hospital for treatment. On the fourth day, he regained his consciousness and was discharged the next day itself. After the incident, Abdul returned to India with the death certificate in his hand.
He had only a small bag with his passport and medical records in his hand when he arrived back in Kerala. “When I opened it, I saw a death certificate from Saudi Arabia. The death certificate will be issued soon to those accompanying the body for quick repatriation,” he said.
It was in the possession of Abdul Majeed along with other documents but it went missing two years ago. "I'm still alive and only that matters," Abdul Majeed added when asked about the missing certificate.
