16-yr-old thinks sharp...sells knives to take care of sick mother and sisters in Cherthala
Cherthala: Vineeth, a 16-year-old, depends on the sharpness of knives to survive. He sells knives in the town because he has to take care of his family at this tender age. His mother Sindhu is affected with a chronic disease and is bedridden. He has two sisters also. The teen boy is the breadwinner of the small family.
Vineeth's biggest dream is getting good treatment for his mother and a safe house. They had been living in rented houses in Mannancherry for many years. They shifted from a rented house in Guruvayur to the house in Mannancherry 15 years ago.
Since then, Sindhu had been selling knives and taking care of her three children. Sindhu is suffering from a chronic disease and her small intestine keep growing day by day. Now she has gained a weight of 136 kilograms. She became bedridden last year. Vineeth took up knife selling following this.
Even when Vineeth was studying in class 10, he continued selling knives. He leaves his house early in the morning and sells the knives in Alappuzha, Kollam, Kochi, Pathanamthitta and other areas and returns before 7 pm.
The boy said that he would either get around Rs 500-600 or nothing a day. He had tried to sell everything to buy a 3-cent property in Kavungal but the luck was away from him. Sindhu’s treatment has started and it costs around Rs 1 lakh. Vineeth is trying hard to find this amount at the earliest.
