Konni (Pathanamthitta): The products of Khadi Board have huge demand during the election season. Khadi thread garland and shawl are widely used for election campaign and receptions organised for candidates.
The Kerala Khadi and Village Industries Board had already made Khadi thread garlands in all districts in the state in view of the election campaign. They also prepare garlands in different colours as requested by various parties.
Khadi garlands are available for different rates ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 1000. The district unit of a prominent political party had purchased Khadi garlands worth Rs 25,000 for their campaigns.
The garlands are prepared at the district Khadi units at Ernakulam, Payyannur, Alappuzha, Kollam and Kottayam. Khadi shawls and saffron dhotis also have high demand.
The second edition of the Sakhavu (Comrade) shirts introduced by Khadi Board a year ago has arrived in the market. 5000 shirts were brought to the market ahead of the election. More shirts are made as demand arose during the election season.
