‘Safety Pin Trick’ to be tried at all festivals to prevent chain snatching
Palakkad: Police is planning to implement the ‘safety pin’ technique during all festivals in the district soon after it proved successful in Kalpathi chariot festival. Being a grand festival attended by thousands of people, the police had to try a new trick to safeguard the properties of the people and they chose ‘safety pins’.
‘Safety pin’ trick
No matter how crowded the place is, people just need to fasten their gold ornaments with their clothes using a safety pin. If somebody tries to snatch the ornaments, the cloth will get pulled and the person can stop the attempt of snatching. This trick can be tried while travelling in bus also.
Implemented in Kalpathi
During Kalpathi chariot festival, announcements were made at regular intervals reminding people to secure their ornaments with safety pins. Also safety pins were distributed for free.
Palakkad DYSP Saju K. Abraham said that the number of participants attending other festivals will be too large. It is hard to implement the same trick everywhere. However, the police are trying to implement the trick at all festival grounds, he added.
