'Moustache man' in Kottayam, exhibits his 19-ft-long beauty
Kottayam: “Moustache is the beauty of men. Wherever I go, I am treated with a special love due to my moustache,” said Jaipur native Ram Singh Chauhan who holds the Guinness record of having the longest moustache in the world. He bagged the award in 2010 in Italy with his 14 feet long moustache.
He was attending a private function in Kottayam. “Nobody has ever broken my record. I’m happy about that,” he continued.
Ram Singh, who retired as a superintendent in tourism department, started growing his moustache when he was on service. He had also conducted an exhibition in the Indo-Pak border and amazed people of both countries.
Ram Singh has staged a tour in Pakistan with ‘Root’, a volunteer organization in Delhi. “On that trip, the moustache exhibition was held for 10 days in Karachi and Lahore each. Nowadays, people throng wherever I go. All want to know about my moustache,” Ram Singh laughed.
He bagged the Guinness record when his moustache was 14 feet long in 2010. After 8 years, his moustache has grown 19 feet long. He said that he can renew his own record now.
Ram Singh’s moustache started to grow in 1970 and he started caring it since 1980. Only herbal oil, shampoo and soap are used to care the moustache. Sometimes olive oil, coconut oil and mustard oil mixed in equal amount is applied on the moustache, which helps boost its growth.
Ram Singh’s wife also helps to wash the moustache. “After the moustache is dried thoroughly, I cover it in light cotton cloth to protect it. This cloth is put around my neck and I open to show it only when required,” he said.
Ram Singh has also acted in Bollywood movies. He appeared as a character in James Bond movie ‘Octopussy’ in 1983. He is also a member of Isha Foundation.
His wife Asha Chauhan was not much interested in moustache in the beginning. ‘Now Asha is a big fan of my moustache. All three of my children also like it which is why I was inspired to go for the record,’ Ram Singh revealed.
