'Kaaliyattam' festival passes with nobody to watch amid lockdown
Koyilandi (Kozhikode): One more season of 'Kaaliyattam' passed without elephant procession and a crowd to witness it. The renowned festival 'Kaaliyattam' of Kollam Pisharikkavu Bhagavathi temple was scheduled on Sunday. But the celebrations were avoided in coronavirus fear this time.
N Narayana Moosath, chief priest of the temple, arrived on Kaaliyattam day which falls on Sunday and returned after performing the rituals. Only a few people including the priests and security staff were present on the premises. Even the shops near the temple remained closed during lockdown.
Normally, thousands of people throng Panthalayani Kollam for witnessing Valiya Vilakku and Kaaliyattam rituals held at the temple as part of the 8-day festival. All arrangements were made for the festival and it was cancelled following the coronavirus outbreak. The main gate of the temple is closed for many days to stop devotees from entering inside.
