Palakkad: The wild elephant called 'Bulldozer' which was found in Attappadi with a wound in its mouth has died. The jumbo was found dead near Marappalam in Sholayur on Wednesday by 7 am.
The tuskless male elephant sustained injury in its mouth after it chewed on an explosive by mistake. Due to deep injury, the elephant was unable even to drink water and was in an exhausted state.
Though the forest department was trying to treat the elephant after tranquilizing, the jumbo died before that. The elephant had destroyed many households in the region one month ago. Following this, the locals called it 'Bulldozer'.
The elephant trespassed into human habitations searching for food and then destroyed everything seen on the way. It used to break windows and doors to get grains and other food stuff stored in households.
The forest officers tried to scare the elephant using rubber bullets but in vain. Finally, they had also started attempts to fix a radio collar to monitor the elephant. By the time, the elephant succumbed to injuries.
