`Ammu' calf dies of viral infection at Konni camp
Konni: A one-year-old elephant calf died of viral infection at the Konni elephant training centre. The calf ‘Ammu’ was suffering from Elephant Endotheliotropic Herpes Virus infection.
This is the second elephant calf to die of this infection at the Konni camp this year. Ammu was in the news recently after Forest Minister K Raju came to the camp to name her and another two calves.
The baby elephant was caught from the Karulai forest range in Nilambur Division and was brought to the camp one year back.
