‘Aatmabodhodhyam’ library that inculcated reading spree hits platinum jubilee
Pantheerankavu: The library that showered the prosperity of wisdom in Manakkadavu village, has turned 75 years old. The ‘Aatmabodhodhayam’ library was first set up in 1946. That was the time when it was difficult to even access the daily newspapers.
Manakkadavu was a village with only a few houses having the luxury of owning a radio. People were deeply ignorant of the affairs of the world. Absorbing the gravity of the situation at hand, the youth at the time took an initiative and introduced this library at the village.
P M Chaathu Master and Thiruthiyil Mohammed were the founding president and secretary respectively. Through their systematic functioning and interaction in the social-cultural events of the area, the library soon grew to be the voice of the vicinity. Entering the platinum jubilee, Aatmabodhodayam is transcending in all fields, be it art, literature, sports or education.
Working in its own two-storey building, the library holds a collection of over 9000 books. The 323-member library also has an active mobile book distribution unit. Edison balavedi, Vanithavedi, Harithasree agricultural club, Yuvatha youth club, E- information centre are all an integral part of the library.
P M Velayudhan, K K Chathunni, P M Ananthan were the longtime office bearers of the library. Currently P M Vinod Kumar and V C Suresh are serving as president and secretary. K P Swapna and K Susheela are the librarians. The platinum jubilee festivities began in November, 2020, stretching up to December 25, 2021.
