Yemen court stays death penalty of Kerala woman
Sanaa: A court in Yemen granted stay on the death penalty of jailed Kerala woman Nimisha Priya. The judicial council, which is the apex court in Yemen stayed the death penalty of the Keralite who was convicted for murdering her husband Tala Abdu Mahdi, a Yemen citizen. The stay order will be in force until the court decides on the appeal against the death penalty.
Nimisha Priya was found guilty of killing her husband with the help of a nursing assistant in 2017. She chopped the body into pieces and dumped it into the water tank at her house. Nimisha Priya is a native of Kollengode in Palakkad.
She was arrested while attempting to escape after committing the crime. The court awarded death penalty after trial in 2018.
