World’s biggest ‘Pookalam’ in Dubai enters Guinness Book
Dubai: Keralites in Dubai created another history by making a giant ‘Pookalam’ to enter Guinness Book of World Records. The ‘Pookalam’ entered Guinness Book as the biggest ‘Pookalam’ in the world.
UAE Ministry of Tolerance has made the arrangements to make the flower carpet in connection with tolerance year celebrations. AKCAF events, fraternity of alumni from colleges across Kerala and Globerz Events jointly organised the flower carpet making.
Though they planned to make the ‘Pookalam’ on one lakh square feet area, they reduced it due to shortage of flowers.
The ‘pookalam’ was made at Dubali festival city on Friday evening. Over 5000 volunteers from 150 countries joined hands together to make the giant ‘pookalam’. The event upholded the message of unity and tolerance as large number of people gathered here by ignoring the cold climate.
A unique design was given to the flower carpet with an aim to deliver the message of the UAE heritage. Most important landmarks of the country such as the Sheikh Zayed Mosque and Burj Khalifa were also displayed on the flower carpet. 50 ton flowers imported from India and Kenya were used for the making. The flowers were stored in 5500 boxes.
Public is allowed to visit the giant ‘pookalam’ till Sunday. Government representatives of various countries and school students are expected to visit the special flower carpet.
