Pala: The family of a woman who has been put under house arrest in Oman, submitted a memorandum to Forest Minister A K Saseendran seeking release. The memorandum submitted by Beena sought the release of her daughter Ranjini (34), who was taken to Oman under a visiting visa last January.

Ranjini, wife of Pala native Unni, was promised a teacher’s job in Oman by Kannur native Jaffar and his gang. However, Ranjini was forced to do house chores upon reaching there. When she asked them to take her back home, they threatened her and demanded Rs 40,000.

Even after giving the money, Ranjini’s agent did not send her back home. She is currently working at a policeman’s house in Al Wadi.

“She has been working for eight months but received only Rs 5,000 so far,” said Ranjini’s mother. The family has also lodged a complaint with the Pala DySP office.
