Kozhikode: According to an expat association Arabian Expat Council, expats from Kerala have so far spent Rs 4 cr for undergoing RT-PCR tests in airports of Kerala. Citing this among many other allied concerns affecting Kerala expat community amid Covid-19 pandemic, the association has batted for making RT-PCR test free.The council convenor Abaz Koduvalli and Asharaff Atholi raised the demands while addressing media persons.
Among others, the council has demanded that government should appoint a commission to study the issues faced by expatriates. Amid Covid-19 pandemic, around 18 lakh expats have returned to Kerala and among them many lost their jobs while some are troubled by expiry of visa, the council representatives said. The council has urged the state government to have talks with UAE administration to renew visas. Many are struggling to return as they cannot afford ticket cost, the council pointed out.
