Dubai: When Puducherry Cuddalore native Kripashankar cancelled his visa and returned to his native place, he gave a few gift coupons to his friend and roommate Pathanamthitta Mezhuveli native Shaiju. He also told Shaiju to share half the gift jokingly, if he wins the jackpot.
But his words became true the same night as the same coupons won 250 grams of gold in the lucky draw. In no time, Shaiju informed the news to Kripashankar and sent an amount half the prize to him. Both the friends showed the world that trust is more valuable than gold.
Kripashankar has been working as an engineer in Umm Al Quwain for the past four years and Shaiju has been working in a private firm there for 13 years. Both were residing in the same place for three years. Kripashankar had to return on January 7 cancelling his visa. Shaiju accompanied him to buy gold before going back.
When Kripashankar purchased a necklace worth Dh 6000 from Malabar Gold jewellery in Umm Al Quwain, he got 12 gift coupons. But he wrote Shaiju’s name in all the coupons and returned to his place on the same night.
Never had he imagined he will hit the fortune. When he came to know about the prize, Kripashankar sent the bill to Shaiju on January 8. Soon after he received the prize, Shaiju sent half of the amount to his friend.
