Saju and Anju, Krishnamma

Kottayam: Anju Ashok, a Malayali nurse who was murdered along with her two children in London by her husband was subjected to brutal domestic violence, revealed her mother.

Her mother Krishnamma has alleged that her son-in-law Saju abused Anju when they were in Saudi Arabia.

Vaikom native Anju and her two children Jeeva Saju (6), and Janvi Saju (4) were murdered on Friday at their home in the Northampton region of eastern England. Anju was found dead at the house while her children were seriously injured. Though the children were rushed to the hospital, the doctors pronounced them dead on arrival. Saju was taken into custody following the death of the mother and children.

Krishnamma stayed with the couple for some time when Anju and Saju were working in Saudi. Anju’s mother revealed that she had witnessed Saju’s physical assault against her daughter.

Krishnamma said Saju used to lock the door while attacking Anju.

“Once, I asked him to open the door, but he did not. I tried to kick the door. He opened the door afterwards and went out,” she said.

Krishnamma added that Anju refused to respond when she asked about the issue in her married life.

Anju’s mother further said that the couple was employed in Saudi but when they reached England, Saju could not find a job.

Krishnamma also expressed his wish to see the bodies of her daughter and children for the last time.

But bringing the dead bodies home would cost around Rs 30 lakh. So, the family has sought the government’s help to repatriate the bodies.

The UK police informed the family of Anju that she was murdered. Police informed her parents that Anju was choked to death using a shawl or a rope. According to the post-mortem report, she suffered severe injuries.
