Dubai: The two-day UAE visit of Congress President Rahul Gandhi will begin on Friday. The Congress leadership, with a public meet, is looking at showcasing the NRI unity by assembling thousands of supporters here.
Considering the particular situation in UAE, rather than a political meeting, a cultural meeting to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhiji is arranged on Friday in which Rahul Gandhi will be the chief guest.
AICC Secretary Himanshu Vyas said that the visit is organised to meet the NRIs and seek their problems, before the general elections in India.
It is expected that a large crowd will take part in the meeting to be held at the Dubai Cricket Stadium on Friday evening.
Rahul will also take part in the programmes of Indian Business and Professional Council arranged in Dubai on Friday and in Abu Dhabi on Saturday. He will also visit Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi and Labour camp in Dubai, said Vyas.
The cultural meet with the theme ‘Idea of India’ rooted in Gandhi’s ideologies falls at a time when UAE is observing the tolerance year. Rahul Gandhi is expected to address the meet on this subject rather than politics.
Cultural programmes depicting the Indo-UAE relationship will also be showcased by hundreds of artists.
UAE visit is the first foreign trip of Rahul Gandhi in 2019. Indian Overseas Congress President Dr Sam Pitroda will preside over the function.
Special bus arrangements have been made for delegates from all Emirates to arrive at the venue. Around 800 50-seater buses have been arranged which will start from respective places at 1.30 pm towards the venue. RTA buses are also arranged near metro stations, informed the AICC secretary in a press meet.
Indian overseas Congress Secretary Dr Arati Krishna, Incas UAE President Mahadevan Vazhasseril and KMCC President Puthoor Rahman also addressed the media.
