Kerala woman elected to Rome’s administrative committee

Thoppumpady (Kochi): In a historical move, Teresa Puthoor, hailing from Kerala, has been elected as a member in the administrative committee of Rome. It is for the first time that an Indian woman has been elected to the municipal council of Rome.

Teresa, who was a candidate of Democratic party, got elected from a region which has a sheer majority of Italian citizens, said Sibi Mani Kumaramangalam, a member of the party’s National Council.

Teresa had reached Rome 35 years ago as a nurse and she was a member of Democratic Party for the past 15 years. Teresa's influence in the health sector and social welfare has helped her to win in the election.

Her husband is Vakkachan George, a Kochi native, and children are Veronica and Daniel. The family usually visits Kochi during vacations.
