No job, no food; 2 Kerala men stranded in Sharjah seek help to return home
Sharjah: Two Kerala men are struggling to survive in Sharjah for the last three months without job and food. Mahesh, a native of Thalassery and Shajahan, a native of Kollam have been stranded in the foreign land unable to return home as their company doesn’t relieve them.
The two are painting workers in a Dubai-based construction company owned by Palestinian natives. Mahesh and Shajahan have been working with the company for over two years. Their work visas ended in May 2019. Their hard time in life began when the company stopped them paying salary.
Further, the two met the company authorities regarding their salary. The company authorities said that the company has no work these days and staff may have to sit idle in the room for a period of six months.
The two then requested the company to cancel their work permits and send them back home which company didn’t budge. Following that Mahesh and Shajahan approached Dubai labour department.
Majority of the workers in the company are north Indians. For the last three months, they have been struggling to move on without job and money. Legally, their permit to live in the country has ended. Though friends bring them food, many a times the two have no food.
Their families in Kerala are dependant on them. Mahesh and Shajahan pleaded that all they want is to return home.
