Murder of Yemeni in Qatar: Keralites who were given death penalty can file appeal, 15 acquitted
Doha: The criminal court in Qatar has acquitted 15 persons who were named accused in the sensational Yemeni murder case. Four Keralites were given death penalty in the case. They can file an appeal against the verdict.
Kannur and Kozhikode natives Anoop, Usman, Linith, Noushad, Rasal, Nikhil, Dijil, Sadiq, Shihab, Muneer, Cheriya Muhammed, Luqman, Niyas, Jayseer and Fayas were acquitted. Among the 27 accused, 3 main accused had escaped from police custody earlier.
The first 4 accused Mattannur Palottupaally natives Ashfeer K, Anees, Rashid Kuniyil and T Shammas were awarded death sentence. 12 of the accused were given free legal aid by Nisar Kochery with the cooperation of Indian Embassy and NORKA legal cell.
The murder of Yemeni citizen took place in June 2019. First accused Ashfeer and gang brutally murdered the Yemeni who was asleep in his room. They also robbed the gold and money from there and sent the money home through various means. Police also took into custody the vehicle used by the accused.
