Kerala couple returns home after being cheated in UAE
Sharjah: Ernakulam couple who were offered job in the same company in UAE and later cheated is set to return to Kerala. It was the intervention of various social workers that enabled the couple’s return. The couple will return from UAE on Friday.
The couple went to UAE to join an organization run by Kollam and Pathanamthitta natives in Dubai’s Al Bada. The couple had paid a sum of Rs 2 lakhs to the owners of the organization for work visa. Despite reaching Sharjah on May 11, they are yet to be paid their salaries and their visas have not been stamped. But when the owners secretly returned to Kerala from UAE, life started becoming miserable for them. With this the couple were left without even a place to stay. The husband struggled to find enough money even to buy medicines for his pregnant wife. Even though they filed complaint with Dubai police, it turned out to be futile.
The couple got their visa through a Kambanadu native who was working in the organization. It was through his help that they found a place to stay at Karama in the initial days. Later, when their contract expired, they were left without even a place to stay. It was social worker Laila Abubacker who came to help the couple after she came to know about them. The couple could only return home after paying 1000 Dirhams since they did not get their visa stamped in their passports. Their return was facilitated by Angamali association, who paid the fine and did the needful.
