Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala legislative assembly received recommendations to grant reservations for the expatriates in the NRI quota in higher education. Expatriates who have low income will be eligible for the reservation. A committee for the welfare of expatriates appointed by the assembly suggested ensuring relaxations in the interest rate for the education loans availed by the deserving section for studying abroad.

The committee also requested to take action for bringing the mortal remains of the expatriates who died abroad, without imposing any charges. Based on the documents from the embassy, the government should provide concession in flight ticket rates for the expats who return due to poor health conditions or following any accidents.

The committee chaired by the former minister AC Moidheen has also recommended dispensing financial help to the poor families of expatriates who succumbed to Covid 19 abroad.
