Sharjah: A Malayali man died in a boat accident in Khor Fakkan, UAE on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Abhilash (38), a native of Kasaragod. He had been working at a private company in Sharjah for the past seven years.

As per reports, three Malayalees including a child, suffered injuries in the accident. Of them, the condition of the child, a native of Thiruvananthapuram, remains critical.

The accident took place while Abhilash went to celebrate Eid along with his colleagues at Khor Fakkan. Two others, who were injured, are Abhilash’s colleagues.

Reportedly, there were a total of 16 passengers and two employees on the boat. It is assumed that the increased number of passengers on the boat led to the mishap.

“The vessel capsized approximately 1.5 kilometers from the shore because it was traveling too fast and carrying too much weight,” said Shaukath, a passenger who escaped from the accident.

The body of Abhilash is being kept at the mortuary in Fujairah Hospital. He is survived by his wife Aswathy, daughter Abhaya and brother Ajeesh.

Efforts are underway to bring the body to Kerala.
