Israel confers honorary citizenship on Soumya Santhosh
New Delhi: Israel has decided to confer honorary citizenship on Soumya Santhosh, the nurse from Idukki who was killed in a Hamas terror strike in Israel.
Rony Yedidia, DCM at the Embassy of Israel in New Delhi said, “Israeli people believe that she is an honorary citizen, they see her as one of their own". She also added that her family will receive compensation from the national insurance institute of Israel and her 9 year-old will be taken care of.
The family of Soumya welcomed the decision and her husband Santhosh said that conferring such a recognition by the Israel government is being considered as a privilege.
The Israeli president had condoled the death of Soumya and assured support to the family. The president also spoke to the family of Soumya.
Soumya Santhosh, 30, from Idukki district, was killed when she was talking to her husband through a video call on May 11. A rocket fired from Gaza directly hit the house where she was working as a caregiver.
