Govt nod to bring back bodies of NRIs who died abroad
Dubai: The Indian government has approved to bring the bodies of its citizens who have died abroad.
A government order in this regard was released on Saturday evening after four days of uncertainty. However, the permission will not be applicable to coronavirus deaths.
A verbal directive in this regard to the bureau of immigration had resulted in several dead bodies being sent back to foreign countries. Also, many bodies were stranded in foreign countries and airports in India. This resulted in widespread protests against the Indian government.
The Home Ministry of India has released the directives for bringing back the bodies. According to it, the bodies can be brought back with the approval of the Home Ministry and Health Ministry.
All directives issued by the Indian government to prevent the spread of coronavirus must be complied with while bringing the bodies.
