Foreigners not restricted from entering Mecca, says police spokesperson
Mecca: No restriction has been imposed on foreigners to enter Mecca, said Mecca Province Police spokesperson Major Mohammed Al-Ghamdi.
A social media campaign is being circulated that all foreigners who do not have an Iqama (personal ID card for expats) issued from Mecca are barred from entering Mecca. Major Al-Ghamdi informed that such campaigns are baseless.
The Ministry of Home Affairs had already stated that the pilgrims wearing Ihram, the special dress for Umrah ceremony, will not be allowed in Mecca. This rule is applicable for both natives and foreigners.
However, if anybody arrives in Mecca from other places for any purposes other than Umrah, they will be allowed to enter Mecca, said Major Mohammed Al-Ghamdi. The rules and restrictions were imposed following the coronavirus outbreak.
