Pathanamthitta: With the Onam holiday season rush around the corner, flight companies are gearing up to loot Gulf countries-bound passengers. Compared to the ticket fare to Gulf countries, one can travel to Europe with half the price.
The airfare to Gulf countries have skyrocketed, up to four times the normal rate, ahead of the Onam, Bakrid holiday season. From Kochi to UAE, during normal days, cost Rs 4,500 to Rs 5,000 while after August 20, this rates are from Rs 29,000 to Rs 36,000.
Airfare to Saudi Arabia is the highest with Rs 65,000.
Meanwhile, the airfare to England during the same period is Rs 26,000 while to Frankfurt in Germany, it is Rs 40,000 only. The flight ticket rates to Japan, Malaysia, Singapore ranges from Rs 7,000 to Rs 21,000 during the same period.
Airfare from Kochi to Qatar is at Rs 41,000 while to Bahrain it is Rs 52,000. The flight ticket price to Oman, which houses many Keralites, is from Rs 26,000 to Rs 41,000.
Most of the Gulf countries are at 4 to 5-hour air-distance from Kerala. But the European countries have from 7-hour to 15-hour journey.
