Thiruvananthapuram: A demand to include expat Keralites in ration cards was raised at the Loka Kerala Sabha (LKS). They also demanded that proper training and awareness should be given to help them invest in beneficial ways and to ensure value-addition. A special employment exchange for NRKs who have returned is another demand raised at the LKS.
Insurance coverage for families of NRKs and setting up of Kerala Houses in all states, Legal Aid Centre for ensuring legal help for women who get divorced from abroad or subjected to domestic violence are other requirements mooted. The LKS discussed various opportunities for investment and other matters related to expats.
Writer Benyamin was the moderator of Open Forum at the Loka Kerala Sabha. He said that the concept of Loka Kerala Sabha is special as it accepts NRKs as individuals and citizens rather than mere source of money.
Writer Manasi opined that the Loka Kerala Sabha is a haven of peace and relief for the NRKs who are deeply affected by the emotional trauma of migration from native place.
P T Kunhu Muhammed said that the present prosperity of Kerala is the result of constant efforts made by expats despite the rejection they faced from both their native place and the migrated land.
Muralee Thummarukudi stated that Loka Kerala Sabha is a best platform for collecting fund as well as ideas from the NRI community.
