Dubai: Dubai based airline company Emirates has taken a pro nature decision to quit single-use plastics in flights phase by phase. As part of this, the company has stopped distributing plastic straw on-board from June 1. Eco-friendly straws are used onboard now.
Plastic bottles left inside the flights are collected and sent for reuse. In a month, 1,50,000 bottles are collected and reused without sending them to landfills. Plastic bags also will be discarded from August 1. Items bought while onboard will be served in paper bags. Only with this initiative, 8 crore plastic objects could be avoided from going into landfill, claimed Emirates.
Emirates is carrying out a study on the use of plastics on flights. Earlier, Dubai airport had decided to quit single-use plastics.
