The Expo will begin on October 1, 2021 and end on March 31, 2022. Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan sent the letter to BIE Secretary General Dimitri Kerkentzes in this regard. It was said in the letter that the title of the Expo will remain Dubai Expo 2020 regardless of the dates it is being held.
A final decision on the dates will be taken at the BIE meeting to be held on April 21. The proposal will be passed if there is a majority of two out of three. The elected members of Expo 2020 and BIE Secretary General will attend the meeting.
On March 30, the Dubai Steering Committee had met to decide on postponing the Expo. Most of the participants had then demanded to postpone it.
