Dubai: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has issued a directive seeking counties to take back their nationals from the gulf country.
The UAE has also warned of stringent actions, including cancellation of work permits and contracts with such nations if any country fails to take steps in this regard.
The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has clarified that it would consider making amendments to the visa quota of countries which fail to take back its citizens. However, the UAE did not mention the names of any country.
Most European countries have flown their citizens back from the gulf country already. However, India is yet to take a decision in this regard. There are several lakhs of Indians in the UAE.
Earlier, airline companies had announced scheduled services to India and had started bookings. However, the services could not be operated as India did not grant permission.
UAE is ready to provide allowances including leaves for foreigners who are willing to return to their own country. The UAE ambassador in India had clarified that the gulf country was ready to bring all Indians to their home country.
Meanwhile, the Indian government has taken a stance that it will consider operating scheduled services in May.
