Bodies of 2 NRIs, who passed away in Abu Dhabi, denied entry in Delhi; sent back
Dubai: The bodies of two Non Resident Indians were sent back to Abu Dhabi on Thursday despite claims from the central government that there is no ban on repatriation of bodies of NRIs who die on foreign soil.
The permission to take the bodies of two Punjab natives in Delhi International Airport was denied despite completing all the formal procedures. The bodies of Keralites, who passed away in Dubai, are still stuck in the cargo section of Dubai airport despite completing all the procedures.
The bodies of Punjab natives were taken in the same cargo flight back to Abu Dhabi and are kept in the mortuary of Mafraq hospital. There are several such dead bodies in the mortuary awaiting permission to be repatriated to their home country. A lot of NRIs die due to diseases not related to COVID-19. It is inferred that a lot of them are sick due to the anxiety caused by COVID-19 pandemic. Deaths caused due to COVID-19 are cremated as per protocol of the health department.
Meanwhile, eight more people died in UAE due to COVID-19 including a Keralite, whereas six people died in Saudi Arabia and two in Kuwait. Also the total number of COVID-19 patients in the Gulf region has crossed 38,500.
