Thrissur: Kerala men Sajeesh Nair and Arunjith Unnikrishnan have received accolades in the global triathlon organised by the UAE-based sports community Kerala Riders UAE. Around 120 contestants across the globe participated in the third edition of this novel app-monitored tournament. The duo who represented Kerala in the tournament has brought sheen to the state. Interestingly,18 Malayalis took part in the tournament which held from October 29.
Various events (pooled as tasks) under different categories were organised in the tournament.
Sajeesh hailing from Ernakulam’s Aluva won the first position by completing 242km swimming, 264km race and 244km cycling. While Arunjith from Thrissur clinched the second position by completing 2400km cycling and 788km race.
In the competition, the contestant entered the pool of tasks by using a GPS-based device and an app. Their movements will be monitored. The points are different for different tasks: 50 points for swimming, 10 points for a 1 km race and 3 points for cycling. Though contestants can do the tasks at their convenience, it has to be completed within a set timeline or else they will not be eligible to get the points.
