Airfares to Kerala skyrocket ahead of festive season, expats to have a tough time
Dubai: When Onam and Bakrid are round the corner, Keralites in UAE are eagerly waiting to celebrate the holidays with their family in Kerala. But the steep increase in flight ticket rate will affect the large number of UAE based families who are planning to visit Kerala.
It is reported that the ticket rate has increased three times ahead of Bakrid. Official holidays are declared in UAE from August 10 to 13. Hence, most of the people planned to take a visit to their home in Kerala with family. But the huge airfare has left them in crisis.
As per the present ticket fare, 2500 to 7000 DH should be paid per ticket. According to the airfare or Spice Jet, a person who books ticket to Kerala on August 8 and return ticket on August 15 has to pay 2216 DH as ticket fare.
At the same time, ticket fare to Kerala is upto 3000 DH in Air India and Air India Express. Ticket rate of airlines like Fly Dubai, IndiGo and Emirates are listed as 3300 DH, 2900 DH and 7000 DH respectively. These ticket fare are expected to go up in the coming days too.
Ticket fare of flights taking service on Dubai-Kozhikode route are listed as IndiGo- 2400 DH, Air India Express -2800 DH and Spice Jet -2600 DH.
Like this, high ticket rate is charged for flights to Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur from Dubai.
Meanwhile, passengers expressed protest over the steep hike in airfare. It is observed that a four-member family including parents and two kids has to pay lakhs to take a visit to Kerala. Families who left to Kerala to celebrate summer holidays have to return before reopening of schools on September 1. The huge airfare will put more financial burden on large number of families.
At the same time, travel agencies expressed hope that the airfare will decrease within mid-September. Huge rush is seen to book tickets with the culmination of summer holidays and beginning of the festive season. Most of the passengers have complained that tickets are not available.
Ticket rate of flights to Delhi and Mumbai from UAE is also touched above 2800 DH. In some flights, tickets are not available in economy class.
